Alice Yoder, Commissioner

4/13/2024

Alice Yoder
Alice Yoder was elected to the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners in 2023.  She started her professional career as a critical care registered nurse, working in New York City, Washington D.C., and Pittsburgh. It was during that time when she began thinking that health care was more than treating people when they are sick, and focused her graduate work on health promotion and wellness.  In 1992, she developed the Community Health Wellness Department at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, providing programs to LGH employees, businesses, and the community at large, including oversight for developing a countywide needs assessment and strategic community health improvement plans.  Alice served as the Director of Maternal Child Health at LGH for four years, expanding the case management program for low-income mother and first-time pregnant women.

Over several decades, she worked collaboratively with amazingly talented people within dedicated organizations throughout the County. Alice played a key role in the creation and operationalizing of such programs as:
  • Lancaster County’s Child Advocacy
  • Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
  • Refugee Health Coalition and Clinic
  • Let’s Talk, Lancaster (mental health coalition focused on reducing mental health stigma and increasing services)
  • Joining Forces Lancaster County (coordinating efforts to reduce deaths from opioids and heroin)
  • COVID-19 pandemic, co-led mass COVID-19 testing tents, implemented a County Contact Tracing Department and led a COVID-19 Vaccine Access & Equity Coalition that focused on communities of color, rural communities, and people with disabilities.

Alice has served on several boards and commissions, some include the Lancaster County Planning Commission, Urban League of Lancaster County, Governor’s Commission for Children and Families, the Governor’s Advisory Board of Health and the Governor’s Health Innovation Workgroup, as Chair of the PA Cancer Coalition, Vice-Chair of the PA Health Improvement Steering Committee, on the Lancaster City Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, Hunger-Free Lancaster County Board, and the Coalition for Sustainable Housing.

Commissioner Yoder is honored to be your newest County Commissioner and is looking forward to working collaboratively with community partners to solve complex problems and make programs, services, systems, and places work better for all people in Lancaster County.
